Petition to block the sale of license for 88.1 FM KDHX surpasses 1000

For immediate release

February 6, 2025. St. Louis, MO. Following the mass termination of over 70 volunteers on January 31, 2025 and the cessation of live broadcasting at KDHX, concern over its survival as a terrestrial FM radio station has increased. 

An online petition to oppose the sale of the community radio station’s FM license surpassed 1000 signatures in under 24 hours.

The League of Volunteer Enthusiasts (LOVE) of KDHX started the petition on the popular Change.org platform. Read the petition.

The petition states: “We oppose any attempt to sell, transfer or lease the FM frequency and broadcast license of KDHX to any organization that does not support the goals and values upon which the station was founded. We call on the Double Helix Board of Directors to reverse course now and resolve this crisis once and for all.”

St. Louis music critic, author, and former volunteer DJ at 88.1 KDHX, Steve Pick said, “It’s vital to show how much support there is for the community radio station which has been such a big part of our lives these past 37 years. We are powerful when we act together, and this is one easy way to show our love and protect the treasure that is 88.1 FM. It must not be sold.” 

Pick is also a member of the communications subcommittee of LOVE of KDHX.

Public statements by local businesses and musicians have surpassed 250 and 800 respectively.

And on February 4, 2025, over 250 listeners and terminated volunteers packed the Off Broadway Nightclub for an open forum and Q&A about how to defend the KDHX license and bring the democracy and community back to KDHX. A recording of the 2 hour event is available to stream on YouTube.
